Weekly Lessons
At BMA we value helping students at all ages develop a strong technical foundation with the flexibility to adjust to each individual's learning styles. We believe in teaching from the Galamian style of pedagogy with emphasis on critical think and physical pattern building. For all musicians we agree with the school of thought that technical mastery depends on the control of mind over muscle, rather than agility of fingers.
In weekly lessons, students are walked through how to build a sustainable practice routine in 10-minute increments with focus on any number of topics including: isolation of scale patterns and their application, using method books to develop technical mastery, and how to analyze and know the history behind their repertoire.
Follow Up
All lessons are video recorded and you’ll be assigned homework weekly to help you track your progress. Throughout the week, students in both the Discovery and Performance Tracks are able to log into office hours for extra help at no cost. There you’ll be paired with another student or a coach to review and hone your work. This will also be an opportunity to grow in your collaboration and feedback skills.
Evaluations & Opportunities
Performance Track students at the end of each calendar year are given a BMA vocal assessment to ensure you are on the path to achieving your goals. After the assessment is completed, a video session will be scheduled with your instructor to relay your end of course evaluation. They will provide you a retro on your strengths, weaknesses and areas to improve.
All BMA students are welcomed to participate in the twice-yearly live and virtual recitals (Spring/Winter). Additionally all students are supported to participate in monthly workshops, group cohorts, performance outreach, and competitions.
